A Associação estabeleceu 20 categorias entre séries, minisséries, telefilmes, reality shows e talk shows.

Na sequência, as séries The Americans, The Good Wife, Transparent, a inglesa Wolf Hall e o telefilme Bessie, receberam quatro indicações.

Entre as concorrentes de Melhor Série Dramática está Orange is the New Black, que no ano passado levou o prêmio de Melhor Série Cômica. A presença do novelão Empire tira o lugar de produções como Rectify, Mad Men e The Missing, entre outras produções cuja presença na lista seriam mais justificáveis.
